When are post applications performed?
If there is not much loss of tooth structure after root canal treatment, a regular filling is sufficient. If there is significant loss of tooth structure, inlay or onlay restorations are required to prevent fracture. If no tooth walls remain but the roots are healthy, a post supported by the root canal is placed and then a crown restoration is applied.
